We arrived on the island of Senja by car and headed to the familiar and well-regarded bush camp at Ersfjord Beach, where we had stayed on our previous trip. Having found it a great spot, there was no reason to change. This is a beautiful cove with a light sandy beach surrounded by jagged mountain peaks. The restroom facilities are very clean, and there is also an outdoor shower available for visitors. This place is quite popular, so expect some company. Last time, we set up a tent here, but now we have such a good bed setup in the car that we slept in the car.
Attractions in Senja
In our opinion, the best attractions in Senja are located in the northern part of the island, where sharp-peaked mountains dominate the scenery. Here are a few places that are definitely worth visiting when in Senja:
Ersfjord Beach
This beach was mentioned at the beginning of the post and is, in our opinion, a must-see in Senja. It is a popular wild camping spot and a beautiful beach with good facilities. The scenery is absolutely stunning with its sharp mountain peaks.
Bergsbotn Viewpoint
Bergsbotn utsiktsplattform is a beautiful viewing platform with spectacular views down to the fjord and the surrounding mountains. The viewing platform is quite unique, with a wavy section in the middle and an overhanging end that adds to the impressiveness of the view.
Tungeneset Viewpoint
Tungeneset is another very fine viewpoint by the roadside on the coastal rocks. There are also clean restrooms available here. The views are magnificent, with smooth coastal rocks where waves crash dramatically, sometimes splashing high into the air. The sharp-peaked mountains of Senja island can be seen in the background, and they look truly impressive.
Segla & Hesten Hike
Segla and Hesten are majestic mountains in the northern part of Senja, with Segla perhaps being the most famous landmark in Senja. You can read more about these hikes in their dedicated posts: Majestic Segla – Senja’s Most Popular Attraction โ and Hesten Hike – Views of Majestic Segla โ
