We spent a little over two weeks exploring Northern Norway by car, and now it was time to leave the Lofoten Islands and head back towards Finland. Of course, we continued to enjoy the scenery along the way, but otherwise, we hadn’t planned any more stops in Norway, except for one exception: Rovijoki Falls (in Google Maps Rovijoen putous), located right near the border with Finland, about 20 kilometers before the border along the E8 road. Rovijoki Falls is also known by another name, Rovijoki Bridal Veil.
There is a parking lot for Rovijoki Falls right by the side of the road, and it’s easily accessible. The parking lot is spacious, with room for several cars, and the trail to the waterfall starts from there. From the parking lot, you can enjoy lovely views of the valley below and the surrounding mountains.
We started walking along the trail from the edge of the parking lot towards the lower part of the waterfall. As we descended towards the waterfall, the roar of the waterfall grew louder, and as we got closer, we could feel the mist in the air. The trail may be a bit challenging in some parts, but it’s manageable, and the sight that awaits at the end is truly rewarding. Rovijoki Falls is about 30 meters high, with a narrower upper part that widens downwards, creating a significant spray of water at the lower plateau, which can soak your clothes if you get too close.
Rovijoki Falls is relatively easy to reach with a short walk and is a striking waterfall right near the border with Finland. The route from Kilpisjรคrvi, Finland to the Norwegian side is very popular, so if you’re driving through this area, we highly recommend making a short stop at Rovijoki Falls.
With this visit to Rovijoki Falls, it was time for us to bid farewell to Norway and head towards Kilpisjรคrvi with a sense of nostalgia.
