Offersøykammen is an easy hiking trail in the Lofoten Islands that offers stunning views at the summit. The trail is only a little over a kilometer in one direction, with a round trip totaling 2.3 kilometers. It ascends 406 meters, which is fairly consistent throughout the hike, with no steep or gentle sections, just a steady incline. The total duration of the hike is about two hours, depending on how long you want to admire the scenery at the top.
The starting point of the trail is right by the E10 road, and there’s a rest area nearby where you can leave your car. The rest area has toilets, picnic tables, and a lovely sea view. The hiking trail begins from here, just about 700 meters away.
The trail is somewhat rocky but still easy to walk on and suitable for everyone. Mostly, it’s a gradual ascent typical of mountain terrain, and the trail is easy to follow with no risk of getting lost. The steady climb can be tiring on the legs, so it’s advisable to proceed at your own pace, knowing that relief awaits at the top. The beginning of the trail is somewhat bushy, but soon after, the vegetation clears, and as you climb higher, beautiful views open up behind you.
However, the real reward awaits at the summit, where stunning views unfold on the other side of the mountain: small bay inlets, turquoise water, and a combination of rolling and rugged cliffs. The summit offers panoramic views in every direction. Truly breathtaking! On this side of the mountain, the cliff edge is steep, so it’s advisable to walk along the edge cautiously.
In such scenery, it’s definitely worth rewarding yourself with a picnic break, and there’s no rush to head back.
The return journey follows the same route as the ascent. Although one might generally think that going downhill is always easier once you’ve climbed up, it should be noted that coming down can be almost as challenging, as you need to control your speed and watch your steps to avoid slipping. So, it’s a good idea to gather enough strength at the top to come down safely.
Offersøykammen is definitely a recommended and relatively easy hiking trail for anyone visiting the Lofoten Islands.
