Langkawi boasts several beautiful beaches, catering to both those who enjoy hustle and bustle and those who seek peace and tranquility. The island offers a wide range of accommodations, from budget lodgings to luxury resorts. Langkawi’s waters are known for the presence of jellyfish, especially during spring. Our stay coincided with the start of this season in late February, which limited our swimming in the sea. This is something to be aware of, especially if youโre eager to swim in the ocean.
Pantai Cenang
Pantai Cenang is Langkawi’s busiest beach and service hub. This long, palm-fringed sandy beach is lined with beach restaurants and bars as well as various hotels. There are also numerous activities on offer, from jet skiing and parasailing to different types of boat rides.
The beach itself is very beautiful, with soft sand that feels pleasant underfoot. The beach also offers nightlife, with several popular beach bars and spectacular fire shows every evening. Performers skillfully juggle flaming objects, and the flames reach high into the sky.
Tanjung Rhu
Tanjung Rhu, located in the northern part of the island, is a peaceful but beautiful beach. Several picturesque islands are visible offshore, and the beach is part of the Kilim Geoforest Park on the island’s eastern coast.
Amenities on the beach are quite limited. Besides a few resorts, there are a couple of beach restaurants and a few stalls. However, itโs an excellent and beautiful place to relax for those who enjoy tranquility. We found this to be one of the most beautiful beaches on the island.
Sandy Skulls Beach
Sandy Skulls Beach is a small, quiet beach on the northern coast of the island. There were many monkeys playing on the beach and in the nearby trees, and it was enjoyable to watch their antics. The beach has no amenities or nearby resorts, making it an ideal spot for a peaceful beach day.
We visited here just before sunset and enjoyed the beach and the sunset completely by ourselves. There is a decent-sized parking area from which a short path through the forest leads to the beach. The beach also has a couple of small shelters providing shade. Due to its tranquility and the delightful monkeys, this was also one of our favorite beaches in Langkawi.
Pantai Kok
Pantai Kok is a peaceful beach perfect for watching the sunset. The surrounding area has several high-quality resorts. Itโs worth noting that the beach is home to numerous tiny crabs that scurry quickly from hole to hole along the sandy shore. There are really a lot of them. Besides the resorts, there arenโt many services on the beach.
Pantai Tengah
Pantai Tengah is located next to the busier Pantai Cenang, but it is generally much quieter. The two beaches are practically separated only by a small headland.
There are some accommodation options and other services here, but they are significantly fewer compared to Pantai Cenang. The beach itself is very pleasant and beautiful.
