Liesjärvi National Park is easily accessible, situated right off Highway 2 in Tammela, Kanta-Häme. With multiple parking areas scattered throughout the park, various attractions are conveniently within reach.
The park offers stunning lake scenery and numerous hiking trails, ranging from short walks to longer treks, ensuring there’s something for everyone. We visited the breathtaking Kyynäränharju, a narrow ridge between Kyynäräjärvi and Liesjärvi, as well as its surrounding areas.
The closest parking area to Kyynäränharju is Kopinlahti, which also features restrooms and picnic tables.
Kyynäränharju is part of the Ilvesreitti trail network within the park. The ridge itself is about 1.5 kilometers long, making the round trip approximately 3 kilometers, as you return along the same path. The trail is easy to walk, with flat terrain and absolutely stunning views of the summer lakescape, with gentle waves lapping on both sides of the ridge.
At the end of the ridge, we took a short detour along Hyypiön polku (path), which winds through lush forest towards Tapiolan järvi (lake). We also explored Kyynärän muinaislinna (ancient castle), a large rock pile said to have been built by a giant. The formation of caves among the rocks made it look as though they were intentionally placed there 🤔
It was delightful to enjoy the tranquility of nature and the best of Finnish summer. Despite several cars in the parking lot, we encountered only a few other people on the ridge, making it very peaceful.
After exploring Kyynäränharju, we headed to the Savilahti camping area, about 700 meters from the parking lot. The trail to Savilahti is a smaller path through forested terrain, eventually leading to a campsite by a small bay. This spot seemed very popular, with several tents set up. There is also a campfire site for grilling, making it an excellent camping location in beautiful landscapes.
Highlights of this route included the overall scenery at Kyynäränharju, a wooden bridge midway along the ridge, Kyynärän muinaislinna (ancient castle), and the Savilahti camping area.
Liesjärvi National Park is highly recommended for an easy day trip, both in terms of accessibility and trail options. The trails are easy to navigate, and the rest areas we visited were clean and well-maintained.
