After a journey of one and a half months, the final day of our trip had arrived. It was time to travel from Cordoba to Madrid, where our flight back home departed the next day. We intended to savor the last moments of Spain’s mountain landscapes. The direct distance from Cordoba to Madrid was about 400 kilometers, and we planned to take a detour through the mountains, adding a bit more to the journey. So, we had plenty of driving ahead for the day.
We found our way to the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas Natural Park, which was a vast area comprising several nature reserves. The region pleasantly surprised us with its stunning mountain views and winding mountain roads.
Driving through the Tranco area, we passed by a beautiful lake, with the road following the shoreline. Here, we were truly immersed in nature, with sparse settlements and the few villages we encountered were tiny, consisting of only a few houses each. It was a charming rural setting. We also stopped for coffee and a meal at local establishments in these small villages, making it a lovely final day.
We enjoyed the mountain roads well into the evening until we arrived in the village of Montiel as nightfall descended. The village boasted a magnificent castle atop a hill, beautifully illuminated and overlooking the village. The castle was called Castillo De La Estrella. We took a moment to admire the castle and its illumination before continuing our journey.
As the evening grew late, it was time to book a hotel for the last night and head straight to Madrid. We had 250 kilometers left to go to Madrid, so we had thoroughly enjoyed the last day of our journey.
We chose our hotel purely based on its location to make the transfer to Madrid airport as easy as possible the next day. Our hotel was the Holiday Inn Express Madrid-San Sebastian d/l Reyes, located north of Madrid. The room was small but clean, and we could park our car conveniently by the roadside. It was a suitable accommodation for one night near the airport.
And so, our road trip across Spain was completed, and we spent one and a half wonderful months exploring diverse Spain: Barcelona – Pyrenees Mountains – Along the Spanish coastline to the Costa del Sol – Torremolinos – Malaga – Fuengirola – Estepona – Gibraltar – Ronda – Cordoba, and many other amazing places!
Spain is indeed a remarkably diverse country, and we can wholeheartedly recommend touring Spain by car; there is something for every taste and preference!
Espanja on kyllä todella monipuolinen maa ja voimme hyvillä mielin suositella Espanjan kiertämistä autolla, nähtävää ja koettavaa riittää jokaiseen makuun!
