After spending two weeks in Fuengirola, it was time to continue our journey. We rented a car for the remainder of the trip, intending to head towards Gibraltar, and then onward to Madrid, where we had booked our flights home at this point.
Before heading to Gibraltar, however, we decided to make a stop in Estepona, which is only about 60 kilometers away from Fuengirola. Marbella city was also on the way, but we skipped it this time and just drove through.
If you have an image or have seen pictures of Estepona, they have probably been filled with colorful flowers. If this is the impression you have of Estepona, it’s definitely accurate. Estepona is full of beautiful flower arrangements that bring color and create a delightful atmosphere in the city. I’m not sure if we’ve ever been in a city with so many beautiful flower arrangements everywhere.
Here are some tips on what sights to visit in Estepona:
– Castillo de San Luis – A splendid historical building, and the surrounding streets are also very beautiful.
– Church of Our Lady of the Remedies – A beautiful church with a magnificent church tower.
– Plaza de las Flores – A truly beautiful square with lots of gorgeous flower arrangements, and the buildings surrounding the square are magnificent. There are several restaurants on the square, making it an excellent place for a lunch break.
– The Estepona Old Quarter Casco Antiguo – Estepona’s oldest neighborhood, with narrow streets adorned with flowers and red pots. Very picturesque.
– Ruta de los Murales Artisticos – Estepona has stunning murals throughout the city. It’s worth asking for a separate map/tips from the tourist information office.
– Fuentes de Estepona – A beautiful small street with a small water flow in the middle.
– Promenade – Paseo Marítimo de Estepona – A beautiful and pleasant promenade with many large flower arrangements and greenery. A lovely street to walk along and enjoy the city’s atmosphere and sea views.
The best part of the city is indeed to walk along the streets and squares and admire the colorful flowers and well-maintained planting areas everywhere. The city as a whole is very uniform and simply stunning. Estepona is rightly called the Garden of the Costa del Sol.
Hotel in Estepona
We got carried away admiring Estepona, so we decided to stay nearby for the night. We booked accommodation at a golf resort, Ona Valle Romano. The hotel was located near the mountains, so we had really nice mountain views. The resort was really large, as golf resorts often are. The apartment was also large, and our terrace was huge! It was very clean and overall a great place. Breakfast was really extensive and good, and we enjoyed it outdoors with mountain views. Recommended hotel for a visit to Estepona if you’re traveling by car.
